Sacred Peace Table
George Nakashima's tangible expressions of his vision for peace have already found meaningful homes on the American, European and Asian continents. By 2001, we could focus more directly on finding just the right place for the George Nakashima Peace Table for the Peoples of Africa.
The path meandered, the word went out and soon there emerged an ideal opportunity. Our first conversation with the Director of the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre in 2004, showed that the ideals and vision of the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre and the Nakashima Foundation for Peace were a natural match. Both sides were excited by the possibility. From that time forward through letters and visits, we became closely acquainted with each other, the bonds grew stronger. The next Sacred Peace Table would be housed at the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre in Cape Town, South Africa
The Centre has created stunning architectural plans that include a special room of peace for the Sacred Peace Table. As the new building is in the process of being created, in 2012, we will confer on educational programs and special events to forward the mission of both organizations—to create an atmosphere where people can come together in the mutual desire for a world at peace.
The Nakashima Foundation for Peace is creating and shipping this Sacred Peace Table for the Peoples of Africa as our gift. The expenses will be close to $100,000.
