Documentary’s Global Premiere

We are thrilled to announce that after more than two decades in the making, the documentary, George Nakashima, Woodworker, is a reality.

Design Miami/ hosted the global virtual premiere of the definitive documentary by Independent Filmmaker, Senior Producer/Director, and George’s nephew, John Nakashima, on October 2 – 4, 2020. The premiere included a discussion of the film with John and Mira Nakashima, moderated by Design Miami/ Curatorial Director, Aric Chen.

The two-hour film is the only in-depth documentary about the work of our celebrated woodworker George Nakashima. Through never before seen still and film photography,  the documentary offers a rare and very personal perspective of Nakashima, his creative process, and the work that he designed and produced over a period of 54 years. The documentary reveals George’s lifelong journey in becoming one of the leading figures in the American craft movement.

It is because of your generous contributions that it was possible to accomplish this significant undertaking.
