Auction to Benefit Site Preservation

The Nakashima Foundation proudly presented a beautiful Minguren I coffee table for online auction by Rago Art and Auctions to benefit preservation of the George Nakashima Family Home.
This special piece is crafted from figured Claro Walnut Burl with an English Walnut graft and features a signature Nakashima butterfly made out of East Indian Rosewood. The free-edge top rests on a base of American Black Walnut.
The Minguren series was introduced to celebrate the many shows that George did at the Odakyu Department Store in Tokyo, Japan. The design was named after a group of artisans, including Masayuki Nagare, who sponsored shows of George’s work in Japan and solidified a lifelong partnership with Sakura Seisakusho, our sister woodshop in Shikoku, Japan.
The piece was sold for $36,830, marking an important milestone in our goal of raising $100,000 to support necessary preservation work on the Family House.
We would like to thank Rago/Wright Auction House for their generosity in supporting this benefit sale.
