Tree Meditation
Welcome. To be present and centered in this moment, please breathe out your distraction. Now breathe in the light. Breathe out again, pulling your abdominals towards your spinal column to make room for the grace as your breathe in with a full belly. Please do this again and throughout the meditation.
We thank Mother Earth for this sacred time and place. May this healing be for the greatest good.
Here we are in New Hope with petals used 10 years ago at the rededication of the majestic Altar for Peace at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC. May the sanctity of that moment empower our aspirations as we gather here before young trees, recently planted. We add to these petals, new ones – filled with our prayers and resiliency.
We recognize the fragility of our planet. We know that we are now in climate crisis. And yet we believe with intention and good works that the ecocide can end and nature can rejuvenate. We recognize our responsibility to take care of the great web of life.
Let us see in our mind’s eye the roots of these trees reaching deeply into the earth to bring forth stability. Let us see their trunks strong, holding the branches securely as they reach for the sky.
In their growth, they also connect to all the other trees – giving courage, strength and faith. A great canopy of branches, intertwined around the globe to revitalize the forests, the green places, the old growth trees. The Amazon Rainforest, the Redwoods of California, the Sagano Bamboo Forest outside of Kyoto, the Taiga of Russia. As this happens, the waters and air are cleansed and balance is brought back into the environment.
Nakashima so eloquently said in his “Soul of a Tree”, “A tree provides perhaps our most intimate contact with nature. A tree sits like an avatar, an embodiment of the immutable, far beyond the pains of man.”
May we be wise enough to learn from the trees.
See a magnificent circle of green leaves encompassing our earth – cradling, protecting, and nurturing her.
Allow this image to float upwards to the heavens as we stand here grounded in George’s creation of beauty and peace.
